Lot consists of (A) Edward K Tryon single shot derringer. Made circa 1870s, and sold under the Rupertus name. Top of the barrel is marked "RUPERTUS PAT'D, PISTOL MFG. CO. PHILADELPHIA". "70" serial number on the interior of the grip. Unique design with the barrel collar working as the extractor. 2 part barrel, with brass pin front sight. Iron frame and barrel with rosewood grips on a square butt. CONDITION: Metal retains little of its blued finish, with most areas forming a gray patina. Grips have a few handling marks and scratches, being lightly sanded. Bore is heavily frosted with some pitting. Fair overall rifling. Mechanically fine with a tight hammer. (B) Cowles & Son single shot derringer. Made early 1870s. Barrel is marked "COWLES & SON / CHICOPEE, MASS". Matching serials on the barrel, butt, interior of the left grip leg, and on the inside of both grips. Half round, half octagon barrel with brass blade front sight. Barrel was blued. Frame is brass, being originally silver plated. Oiled walnut grips. CONDITION: Metal retains little of its original finish, with the frame being completely tarnished brass. Barrel is forming a gray/brown patina. Grips have minor handling marks. Bore is frosted, with a few minor pits. Good overall rifling. Tight hammer, being mechanically fine. JWA
