Lot consists of (A) T.J. Stafford single shot derringer. Made circa early 1860s. Barrel rib is marked "T.J. STAFFORD, NEW HAVEN, CT". "PATENT / APPLIED FOR", marked on the butt. Matching serials on the barrel, inside of the frame on the butt, and numbered on the inside of each grip panel. Octagon barrel with full rib. Silver plated front sight blade, with frame mounted U-notch rear (also serves as the barrel latch). Brass frame. Varnished smooth finish wood grips. CONDITION: Metal retains little of its original finish, with a heavy brown patina forming on the barrel. Frame has some tarnish, and is oxidation on the inside of the grip legs. Hairline cracks on the inside of the grip panels. Bore is frosted, with fair overall rifling. Tight hammer. Barrel moves when latched. (B) James Brown & Son Eclipse Vest Pocket derringer. Made late 1870s. "ECLIPSE" marked on the left side of the barrel. Matching serials on the barrel and frame. Two part barrel with no sights. Factory nickel plated iron barrel and frame. Varnished walnut grip on a birds head butt. CONDITION: Metal retains 80% of its original finish with minor scratches. Grips have minor handling marks. Bore is heavily frosted with minor pitting. Fair rifling. Tight hammer, being mechanically fine. JWA
