Lot consist of: (A) T.J. Stafford Co. single shot derringer. Made circa early 1860s, by the J.H. Merrill company. Barrel rib is marked "T.J. STAFFORD, NEW HAVEN, CT". Patent markings on the butt. Matching serials on the barrel, inside of the right grip leg and penciled on the inside of the grips. Octagonal barrel with full rib and blade front sight. Frame mounted U-notch rear. Barrel is blued. Factory, scroll engraved brass square butt frame. Varnished rosewood grips. CONDITION: Metal retains little of its original finish, with a brown patina forming on most of the blued parts. Evenly tarnished frame, with little signs of cleaning. Grips have handling marks and scratches. Bore is frosted, with light pitting. Good overall rifling retained. Hammer has some push off, but remains mechanically operable. (B) J.C. Terry single shot derringer. Made circa early 1860s. Back strap is marked "J.C.TERRY / PATENT / PENDING". Serial number on the inside of the left grip leg. Round, iron barrel with silver plated blade front sight. Frame mounted U-notch rear. Brass frame, with fish tail butt. Oiled walnut grips. CONDITION: Metal retains little bluing on the barrel, with a brown patina forming. Brass frame has a light tarnish, with no signs of cleaning. Left wood grip is cracked. Bore is frosted, with very good overall rifling. Tight hammer, being mechanically fine. JWA
