This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 7/12/2022
Lot consists of (A) Hopkins & Allen XL Pocket single shot derringer. Top of the barrel is marked "XL VEST POCKET". Matching serials on the barrel, frame, and trigger. 2 part barrel, swinging to the side to load. Metal components have a polished finish. Bird's head butt with varnished wood grips. CONDITION: Metal components retain little of their original finish with most areas forming a gray patina. Left grip panel is cracked, otherwise grips have light handling marks. Bore is heavily frosted with some pitting. Poor rifling retained. Tight hammer, being mechanically fine. (B) Boss single shot derringer. Made circa mid 1870s, most likely by a small firm owned by Dexter Smith. These were typically sold as toy/blank guns, as they will only chamber a .22 short blank. "BOSS" marked on the barrel flat. There are some faint patent dates on the barrel. Round, unrifled barrel with no sights. Most likely nickel plated at some point, but no finish remains. Oiled walnut grips. CONDITION: Metal retains none of its original finish with a heavy brown patina forming. Grips have a few minor handling marks. Bore is heavily frosted with some pitting. Tight hammer, seeming mechanically fine. JWA
