1 of only 40,000 P.08s manufactured by DWM for military and police issue under order of the IMKK between 1920 and 1921. The receiver is stamped "1921" over the chamber, with DWM Weimar era "(Eagle) / WaA4" waffenamts present on the right. Barrel exhibits a single "(Eagle) / WaA4" waffenamt. Front grip strap bears a police unit marking "S.M.926.", indicating issue to the Schutzpolizei, Munster District. Receiver retains its sear Schiwy safety, and frame exhibits a cut for a magazine safety which is no longer present. Metal components are rust blued, with some smaller components being strawed. Frame is mounted with 2-piece checkered walnut grips. All numbers are matching with the exception of the hold-open latch which is mismatched and the grips which match one another. Firing pin and magazine are unnumbered. Magazine bottom is a later replacement and is poorly fit. Pistol is accompanied by a 1940 dated Genschow & Co. P.38 leather holster containing a P.38 magazine. CONDITION: Metal components retain large amounts of their arsenal applied blue finish, exhibiting areas of wear overall that show through to gray and brown patinas. Strawed components retain traces of their original finish and appear to have been cleaned at one point in time, exhibiting some spots of light pitting and age related discoloration. Bore is bright, exhibiting mild oxidation and good rifling throughout. Grips show mild smoothing, with some scattered nicks and impressions to the diamonds overall. Left grip exhibits some minor losses around the top of the panel. Holster is very good, exhibiting some mild exterior wear from handling and storage. PROVENANCE: Roger Bender Collection. MLW
