Remington Model 1858 cartridge conversion single action revolver. Made 1860s and later converted to fire metallic cartridges. 3 line patent dates and model markings on the top of the barrel. Cylinder is marked "PATENTED APRIL 3d 1855". Small letter inspector stamps on various parts. Serial number "4559" marked on the end of the barrel, and on the inside of the butt. Original factory applied number "140257" on the barrel and inside of the butt. The grips are penciled "140257". Octagon barrel with blade front sight and v-notch frame rear. Made without an ejector. Parts were blued at some point, with the trigger guard being brass. Oiled finished wood grips, with the right panel having "TEX / 1884" burned into the surface. CONDITION: Metal contains little of its original finish, with most areas forming a gray patina. Brass has been cleaned/polished. Grips have handling marks and scratches. Bore is frosted with minor pitting. Strong rifling retained. Tight hammer and cylinder. Hammer cocks strongly at full and half cock. Cylinder does not spin on half cock.
