Made circa early 1870s. This gun falls in the 1860 Army serial range. New York address on the top of the barrel. "COLTS / PATENTS", marked on the left side of the frame. "44 CAL" marked on the left side trigger guard. Matching serials on the barrel, frame, trigger guard, butt, and cylinder. Engraved Naval engagement scene still visible on the cylinder. Round barrel with German silver front sight. Rear v-notch on top of the breech plate. Barrel and cylinder having their original blued finish, with the frame and hammer being case colored. Oiled wood grips have been refinished at some point. CONDITION: Metal retains little of its original finish, with an even gray patina having formed throughout. Grips have minor dings and scratches. Bore is mostly clean, with some frosting present at the muzzle. Hammer and cylinder are tight, with the hammer holding full and half cock. Mechanically fine. PROVENANCE: Roger Bender Collection. JWA
