Made circa early 1880s, as a competitor to the Colt Single Action Army. Top of the barrel is marked "E.REMINGTON & SONS, ILION, N.Y. U.S.A.". Possibly a military or police contract gun, with a lanyard stud and ring attached to the butt. "208" found on the inside of the butt. Round barrel with blade front sight and U-notch rear. 6 shot fluted cylinder. Metal surfaces have been reblued. Oiled wood grips. CONDITION: Metal retains 70% of its reapplied finish with general wear and some light areas of patina forming. Right grip panel is cracked on the inside. Handling marks on the exterior of both grips. Bore has minor pitting, retaining good overall rifling. Hammer retains full and half cock. Cylinder and hammer are tight when cocked. PROVENANCE: Roger Bender Collection. JWA
