Made 1906 and falling in the standard USMC serial range. 2 line address on the top of the barrel. "COLT.D.A.38" marked on the left side. "297" numbered on the butt, by the Marine Corp, translating to Colts serial number of 10297. "U.S./M.C." marked on the butt. Matching assembly numbers on the frame, crane and cylinder latch. Star proofs on the left side of the trigger guard, cylinder face, and bottom of the barrel. Round steel barrel with half moon front sight and U-notch frame rear. Period reapplied blued finish. Checkered grips are original, being faintly numbered on the inside (illegible). Lanyard stud and ring are present. CONDITION: Metal retains 50% of its finish, with areas of cleaned pitting and finish loss. Grips have light wear. Bore is shiny overall with strong rifling. Tight hammer and cylinder. Function seems to be fine in both single and double action. PROVENANCE: Roger Bender Collection. JWA
