Made 1863. Grip has faint cartouches visible on both sides. Single line New York company address on the top of the barrel. "COLTS / PATENT" on the left side of the frame. Matching serials throughout, including on the cylinder. "H" inspector proofs on various parts. Round barrel with German silver blade front sight. Barrel assembly, rear grip strap, cylinder and trigger being originally blued. Hammer, loading lever and frame all case colored. Trigger guard is brass plated silver. Oiled 1-piece walnut grip. Includes a period leather hip holster, unmarked. CONDITION: Metal retains little of its original finishes, with most areas having formed a grayish patina. Brass shows some signs of cleaning. Grips have a few minor handling marks. Bore is frosted with light pitting. Tight hammer and cylinder. Gun functions as it should on full and half cock. Nipples show signs of dry firing/use. Mechanically fine. Holster is fair, with heavy wear, crazing on top, and a missing flap. PROVENANCE: Roger Bender Collection. JWA
