German World War II Heer tropical M41 field cap made from an olive green cotton twill. This early war cap is dated "242" (Feb 1942) size marked "54", and maker marked "Landes Lief. Genossenschaft und Muetzenmacher Mitteldeutschland", a very uncommon maker. BeVo machine-embroidered tropical eagle and national tri-color cockade on tan base are both era hand-sewn applied, with a machine sewn line from final cap construction passing across the lower quarter of the cockade. Insignia is unquestionably original to the cap. When made the cap had green branch soutache, and was removed shortly thereafter. Tiny remnants of it can be seen above the cockade and right of the cockade, as well as the broken lower stich line on both sides of the cockade. Cap has stiffened visor, two zinc ventilation grommets with tan painted exteriors are present on each side. The well-marked interior is lined in red cotton, and sweatband consists of a lighter olive green cotton placed upon a green moisture-resistant base is intact. Cap has only light storage wear, and is a very fine example. CONDITION: Overall excellent plus. WEZ
