Made 1898. Standard markings on the receiver. There is a boxed "JLA / 1899" cartouche on the left side of the stock. Circled "P" proof on the wrist. 1896 pattern rear sight, with standard front blade mounted on a pedestal. Original military blued finish on the metal components. Stock retains its original oil finish. Smooth metal butt plate, with trapdoor for cleaning kit (kit not present). Includes attached unmarked, period leather sling and original brass muzzle cover. CONDITION: Metal retains 85% of its original finish with general wear. There is some light freckles of surface rust forming on the front band and right side of the barrel. Wood is excellent overall, with only a few handling marks. Bore is lightly frosted, with good overall rifling. Mechanically fine. Sling has crazing and wear. PROVENANCE: Roger Bender Collection. JWA
