Remington M1862 percussion contract rifle musket, dated 1863. 33" round blued barrel in .58 caliber with blade front sight, saber bayonet lug on right side of barrel, and 3 leaf military rear sight. Barrel is dated 1863 near breech with typically seen “VP” proof on left side and “STEEL H.S.L.” just above wood line. 1 piece walnut stock and forearm with brass nosecap, barrel bands, trigger guard, storage compartment (compartment has steel patch worm and nipple inside), and US marked brass military buttplate. Stock bears "HDJ" and "BH" cartouches on left stock flat opposite lock. CONDITION: Excellent for its age, with nearly all of the original bluing remaining with light freckling throughout. Brass components remain an untouched mellow patina. Color case hardened lock and hammer show age related freckling throughout with strong traces of original color present. Stock is very good, with storage related finish loss near buttplate and markings crisp. Mechanically fine. Bore is lightly frosted with darkness in the grooves and well-defined rifling. PROVENANCE: Roger Bender Collection. TON
