The reverse blade features similar designs with the banner and eagle replaced by the letters "U.S.M.C", ending with a oak leaf palmette just above the ricasso. The sword is marked "W.H. HORSTMANN / & SONS / PHILADELPHIA" which is acid etched just above the ricasso, followed by the Gebruder Weyersberg king's head proof. The hilt features a brass guard with open floral scrollwork, a teardrop quillon, and brass pommel with domed cap as well as a center swelled, grooved wood grip, wrapped with leather and secured with double twisted brass wire which fits neatly in the grooves.
