Ishido Teruhide was of the 10th and last generation of the Ishido Korekazu smiths; post-War he made planes for carpenters which were highly prized. His swords are also desirable. This example is typical shinogi zukuri construction with a low shinogi and iori mune. Blade is out of polish but hamon looks to be a fairly tight gunome. Gilt copper habaki. Nakago with single drilled mekugi-ana, katte sagari yasurime with kiri yasurime filling in some areas at top. Katana mei reads Ishido Teruhide Saku (trans: Ishido Teruhide made this). Ha agari kurijiri nakagojiri. Mounts are army style with floral-over-roe koijiri, semegane, single hanger with double straps that has the rare hanger, koiguchi, fuchi, kabuto-gane, and sarute. Traditionally woven tsuka-ito over chrysanthemum menuki and rayskin same. Blue-and-brown sword knot for company grade officers. CONDITION: Blade is out of polish with mossing, oxidation, and some surface scratches. Ha with some nicks, deepest slightly under 1mm. Mounts are very good with some rubbing throughout, though saya has lost essentially all of the paint, with scrapes and oxidation and several compressions and bends to koijiri. Tsuka ito is good, tight, with hand rubbing to high edges. Ishido Teruhide is a highly regarded smith and his blades are highly desirable. PROVENANCE: Roger Bender Collection. EMW
