Type II configuration Springfield Model 1863 musket dated 1865 on barrel and lock. Standard 40" .58 caliber rifled National Army Bright polished barrel proofed at breech "V / P (Eagle head)" with blade front sight and 2 position rear sight. Case hardened lock marked with federal eagle and "U.S. / SPRINGFIELD" ahead of cock. Fit with a 1-piece plain walnut military stock stamped with crisp "WJJ" and "ESA" inspector cartouches. Iron stock mountings include 3 spring-retained bands, 2-piece trigger guard, and "US" marked butt plate. Rifle is complete with ramrod, wood muzzle cap, and "US" marked socket bayonet. CONDITION: Very fine. Unissued condition. In the white components remain bright with some minor, scattered spots. Lock retains portions of faded case colors. Stock is very fine with some minor marks. Fine bright bore showing crisp rifling. Mechanically fine. BAS
