Lot consists of (A) Letter signed by Rosecrans on House of Representatives Stationery dated June 26, 1884 to Col J.G. Parkhurst in response to an invitation to his daughter's wedding. With envelope. Rosecrans was a representative from California 1881 to 1885. CONDITION: Very good. (B) Civil War scrapbook titled " A Book for the Times" with "1861" added in ink on the shield on an eagle's chest and "Containing selections relation to the wa[r]" 64 numbered pages and 22 unnumbered, a nice contemporary scrapbook assembled in 1861 starting with newspaper clipping about Fort Sumter. It contains numerous clippings dealing with military affairs, anecdotes, some poems, along with some illustrations clipped from patriotic envelopes, etc. The last clipping, inside the back cover is a wood cut of "Brigadier General Rosecrans - in command in western Virginia" showing Rosecrans seated at a table, quill pen in hand. CONDITION: Fair. Glue stains throughout, but a nice contemporary assembly.
