Mauser C96 "Red Nine" semi-automatic pistol manufactured by Mauser for the Imperial German military during World War I. Right side of frame is stamped "WAFFENFABRIK MAUSER/ OBERNDORF A.NECKAR", with an additional manfacturer stamping present on the top flat of the chamber on the receiver. Major metal components are blued, with some smaller components being nitre blued. Frame is mounted with 2-piece serrated grips branded with a red painted "9" on either panel. Matching numbers are present on the frame, trigger, floorplate, receiver, rear sight, bolt, bolt stop, hammer, lock frame, as well as on the locking block. Pistol is accompanied by proper "1920" (Treaty of Versailles) stamped wood stock/holster fitted with a leather "DEUTSCHE / SIGNALFLAGGEN FABRIK / KARLSRUHEI.B. / 1917" marked holster. CONDITION: Metal components retain the vast majority of what appears to be period arsenal reapplied blue finish, exhibiting some mild wear as well as some areas of mild pitting present beneath the finish. Bore is bright, exhibiting mild pitting and retaining strong rifling throughout. Grips are excellent, with some minor impressions and handling marks. Wood stock exhibits scattered dings and impressions from handling and storage, but is otherwise fine. Stock lid exhibits a crack on one side. Leather holster exhibits age related cracking overall with some areas of crazing. Provision for cleaning rod is no longer present and rear belt loops appear to be period replacements. A very attractive example of a desirable Mauser C96 "Red Nine" semi-automatic pistol. MLW
