Originally manufactured by DWM in 1913, this P.08 was later retained under the Treaty of Versailles and was modified for police use. The receiver is stamped "1920" over "1913" over the chamber area, with DWM arsenal proofs present on the right. Toggle bears the intertwined DWM monogram. Left side of receiver retains its sear safety modification. Stock lug has been ground off. Major metal components are blued, with some smaller components being strawed and nitre blued. Frame is mounted with 2-piece checkered walnut grips. All numbers are matching with the exception of the grips, which are unnumbered, and the magazine, which is mismatched. Sideplate appears to have been polished at one point in time. Pistol is accompanied by a 1928 dated Schambach & Co. brown leather police holster containing a spare commercial magazine as well as a later production loading tool. CONDITION: Metal components retain large amounts of their period applied blue finish, showing some mild wear and light thinning overall. Grip straps retain traces of their period finish with the balance exhibiting a gray patina with some scattered spots of age related discoloration. Bore exhibits inactive oxidation and retains good rifling throughout. Grips show some smoothing as well as a few scattered impressions and nicks to the diamonds, but are otherwise fine. Holster exhibits age related cracking and some light crazing overall, but is otherwise serviceable. MLW
