Manufactured in 1894, this Model 1887 shotgun shipped from Winchester January 14, 1895 with a 20" barrel chambered in 10 gauge as is listed in an included factory letter. Although Winchester factory records do not indicate where the shotgun shipped, it was acquired by the Adams Express Company, a period competitor of Wells Fargo, and stamped "ADAMS EX. CO" on the receiver along with a rack number "18". The plain walnut pistol grip stock is also stamped with an "18" rack number and fitted with a checkered steel butt plate. Otherwise standard, the gun remains in its original riot or express configuration, as were commonly used to guard railroads and stagecoaches. CONDITION: Good showing heavy period use. Metal components have largely turned to a dark patina with traces of finish. Stocks are weathered, showing honest heavy wear and some cracking. Fine mechanics with a lightly pitted bore. Front sight bead is missing. A true been there, done that stagecoach shotgun for the collector of iconic Western firearms! BAS
