A product of US production during World War II, these knives are known to have been carried in the Pacific Theater with smaller numbers appearing in the European Theater of Operations. It is believed that Everitt knives were a product of a West Coast supplier with some mentioning the name could be in relation to Everitt, Washington, although this is stated with uncertainty. The knife is unmarked except for the standard “Everitt”, which is located on the handle just behind the knuckle guards. The knife features a steel blade of a simple double-edged spearpoint design, measuring about 6 - 3/4" long with deep central fullers. Overall length is approximately 11 - 3/4". Everitt knives are light and weigh approximately 10 ounces, as the handle is constructed of aluminum. Like this example, the knives were finished with either black or green enamel paint and the blades were painted black. This knife is in textbook Everitt configuration. Complete with its brown leather scabbard which is also textbook, features the correct 10 rivets, 6 staples at the throat, metal ring at bottom for leg tie, long strap with snap that accommodates the knuckles & handle. These scabbards resemble the more common M-6 scabbard, especially with the metal reinforcing plate at bottom of sheath. This is an excellent example of an Everitt knuckle knife, and is even better since the scabbard is named to "J.A. Martin" and also marked "U.S.S.-LST 241". LST 241 participated in various invasions in the Pacific, including Tarawa, Iwo Jima, and Okinawa, acquiring a total of 6 campaign stars during the war. CONDITION: The blade and handle retains most of the original black paint with several scattered chips and areas of loss. The scabbard is equally clean, with areas of discoloration to the leather and paint loss to some of the rivets. Otherwise unmolested, the scabbard remains supple with typical small creases. A fine example of a World War II knuckle knife with great research potential. Overall very good.
