Type I configuration Springfield Model 1863 musket dated "1864" on lock and "1863"(?) on barrel. Standard 40" .58 caliber rifled National Army Bright polished barrel proofed at breech "V / P (Eagle head)" with blade front sight and 3 position rear sight. Percussion lock marked with federal eagle and "U.S. / SPRINGFIELD" ahead of cock. Fit with a 1-piece plain walnut military stock stamped with crisp "TBH" Thomas Hawks and "ESA" Erskine Allin inspector cartouches. Iron stock mountings include 3 spring-retained bands, 2-piece trigger guard, and "US" marked butt plate. CONDITION: Very good.
