U.S. Model of 1917 bolt action rifle manufactured at the Remington factory in 1918. The receiver is stamped "U.S./ MODEL OF 1917/ REMINGTON" above the serial number over the chamber, with a U.S. ordnance flaming bomb stamp on the left receiver wall. Bottom of stock bears an eagle's head over "339" and "300" inspector stamps, with an eagle's head over "314" inspector stamp on the trigger guard. Remington "R" stamp is present on the forend of the stock. Remington "R" stamp is also present on the bottom of the bolt handle, cocking piece, front sight blade, front sight mount, barrel band, as well as the rear sight ladder. CONDITION: Metal components retain nearly all of their original factory applied blue finish, exhibiting a few minor marks from handling and storage as well as a couple small spots of wear showing through to gray patina. Bolt assembly shows some silvering from operation of the action, but is otherwise fine. Barrel band screws show some spots of marring, but are otherwise fine. Extremely fine bore, exhibiting well defined lands and grooves throughout. Stock is very fine, showing some scattered nicks and marks from handling and storage overall. Due to the heavy use of these rifles during World War I, many were arsenal refurbished for subsequent reissue during World War II. The overwhelming majority of Model 1917 rifles are found in such configuration, rebuilt and refinished, with non-refurbished examples, especially of this condition, seldom encountered. MLW
