A great Belgian 4-gun 2-pair cased set of gentleman's pistols made in Belgium circa 1840. Possibly custom made for a sea aaptain or important gentleman of the period. Set consists of 2 matching larger Damascus side-by-side .58 caliber smoothbore barreled Liege proofed, pistols with percussion back action floral engraved locks with checkered fruitwood stocks and German silver gold-washed floral-engraved hardware. Both pistols have original ebony threaded ramrods with brass heads and hidden trapdoors in butts for cap and ball storage. These pistols come with their own bullet mold. The second pair are a set of percussion screw barrel Liege proofed pistols with .45 caliber 4 groove rifled barrels. Hidden trigger percussion floral engraved actions with iron engraved furniture and hidden trapdoors in butt with exotic figured wood plain grips. Pistols come with bullet mold and unique screw top wooden barrel shaped storage vessel with extra mainsprings inside. Entire lot comes in owner script initialed brass trimmed, green felt lined mahogany case with embellished custom accessories and compartments full of extras needed for cleaning and usage of pistol. CONDITION: Overall good with some of gold wash worn to silvery patina in handling areas. Most metal has faded to a silvery patina. Wooden materials (grips, tool handles, etc.) have worn to age looking appearance with traces of original finish. Pistols all have shootable bores with screw barrels tight from years of assembly. Mechanics are good, with 1 screw barrel pistol having a replaced hammer screw. Accessories are in great shape and have lots of original finish. Case shows wear and condition flaws expected with age with case latch repaired. A great set of pistols which would have cost a fortune in the day to make! DLM
