First Issue P.08 Luger manufactured by DWM prior to the outbreak of World War I. The receiver is stamped "1920" over the chamber, with DWM arsenal proofs and an Imperial German Reichsadler present on the left. DWM proofs have been partially overstamped with the serial number, which was applied to the receiver at a later date. Toggle bears the intertwined "DWM" monogram. Left side of frame bears a small arsenal proof, indicating that this example was later fitted with a hold-open device at the arsenal. Front grip strap is unit marked "2./R.R.12.19", indicating issue to the Weimar 4th Reiter (Cavalry) Regiment, 12th Company, Weapon Number 19. Rear of frame bears a matching Weapon Number "19" above the lanyard loop. Major metal components are blued, while some smaller components are strawed and nitre blued. Frame is mounted with 2-piece checkered walnut grips. All numbers are matching, with the exception of the grips which match themselves, and the magazine which is unnumbered. Pistol is accompanied by a rare AKAH commercial holster that was subsequently repurposed for police use and contains a loading tool marked "7221" on the top. The body of the holster is stamped "H.P.174" beneath the flap, indicating issue to the Hohere Polizeischul (Senior Service Police Academy). CONDITION: Major metal components retain bountiful amounts of their period reapplied blue finish, exhibiting some small spots of inactive oxidation beneath the finish, a couple areas of mild wear, and a few spots of minor thinning overall. Strawed components show wear overall, with some spots of inactive oxidation and and age related discoloration. Very bright bore, exhibiting some minor pitting and retaining well defined rifling throughout. Grips show some smoothing and mild impressions, but are otherwise fine. Holster is very good, still being malleable and showing some scattered marks from storage and handling overall. Left belt loop on rear of holster is a period replacement. A very attractive First Issue P.08, that was later utilized by the Reichwehr. MLW
