An interesting piece of presidential history, this small piece of granite is quite the conversation piece, as it was taken from President Abraham Lincoln’s tomb during renovations which took place in 1930. President Herbert Hoover rededicated the Lincoln Tomb in front of a massive crowd on June 17, 1931 for the occasion of the reopening of the tomb following a complete reconstruction. This significant conversation piece is a fragment of the granite which constructs Lincoln’s tomb. The piece appears to be a portion of a pillar, with a carved presentation segment which reads “FRAGMENT FROM THE TOMB OF ABRAHAM LINCOLN / TAKEN FROM DEBRIS DURING RENOVATIONS AT SPRINGFIELD, ILLINOIS JULY 20, 1930”. The upper portion is whitewashed and the portion under the base is chalk. A very interesting piece from the final resting place of one of the Untied State’s most notable presidents. CONDITION: Scattered blemishes, most of which were probably formed in the 1930’s during recovery. Overall very good.
