December 13-15, 2022 Collectible Firearms & Militaria
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 12/14/2022
Lot consists of 4 iron tools recovered from the Lincoln farm in Illinois, all ex Lattimer collection: (A) Iron plow blade. Well used with edge repaired by addition of a new piece of iron secured by large rivets. (B) Blade for splitting or shingle froe. (C) Blade for a broad ax. (D) Wedge. CONDITION: All in excavated condition showing expected pitting, etc. Lincoln lived with his father, stepmother and extended family on the small farm 10 miles west of Decatur from March 1830 to March 1831, after which the family moved to Coles County and Lincoln journeyed to New Orleans. The repair of the plow blade is a nice indicator of the frugality of the household and the wedge is a particularly appropriate relic of Lincoln as the Rail Splitter.
