Known as a "New England Militia Horseman's Carbine" by the once owner of this gun George Moller in his book "American Military Shoulder Arms, Volume II: From the 1790s to the End of the Flintlock Period". This gun is pictured and examined on pg. 329 with history of this gun explained in detail. Gun has 25" round .69 caliber smoothbore barrel with 2 brass barrel bands with front having a blade sight and "P" marking at breech. "WILKES" marked flint lock with single trigger control and small New England style brass lock back plate. Plain walnut full stock with smith-made lanyard ring and original steel ramrod. CONDITION: Overall good with metal surfaces possibly cleaned long ago and now fading to a silvery patina. Brass has golden patina with handling marks. Stock appears to have no visible repairs or restoration with an oil soaked appearance with light usage marks and dings. Dark pitted shootable bore with crisp mechanics. DLM
