This well-marked standard pattern musket features a tapered round barrel with bayonet lug mounted on top, towards muzzle. Left side of breech marked with Tower proof and view marks and a crown inspectors mark on top, tang stamped with crown over 14. The convex lockplate is stamped "TOWER" at the tail and stamped with a British crown over "GR" in the center, along with crown over a broad arrow below pan, denoting government ownership. Standard brass India Pattern furniture. Iron sling swivels. Walnut stock of classic British form, apron carved in relief around barrel tang. Stock profusely marked with inspector stamps and initials. Complete with an original British triangular socket bayonet, blade stamped with crown over 9. CONDITION: Very good overall, untouched. Barrel and lock retain a pleasing dark brown patina, some wear to barrel markings. Lock is in its original flintlock configuration and functions well, marking excellent. Brass retains a dark mustard patina. Stock shows scattered minor marks from use and one splinter missing above tail of lockplate. Bayonet has dark patina and heavy pitting. A very nice War of 1812 period British Brown Bess. DMG
