This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 12/14/2022
The round barrel is marked with partially visible French marks, including a large script "R" and a couple stamped fleur-de-lis markings. Bayonet lug mounted on bottom. The replaced lock is inscribed "Charleville" in the center and has a large early "US" surcharge at the tail. Standard iron Model 1763 furniture and period iron ramrod. Walnut stock with an "H" carved on left side. Also shows American use with the oiling cut below the back tang of lockplate. Possible "U. STATES" removed in right side of buttstock. CONDITION: Barrel retains a pleasing brown patina, was not converted to percussion. Replaced lock retains an applied brown finish and is a reconversion. Furniture retains a pleasing dark patina. Stock untouched with scattered minor marks from use. With a proper lock in original flint, this would be an excellent example of a real 1763 French musket in very good condition. DMG
