"Muster Roll of the Field Commissioned and Staff Officers of the late Sixth Maryland Regiment now the Fourth Company in the Second Battalion of Colonlel Williams' Regt of Infantry serving in the Southern Army of the United States." List of 18 officers with ranks and dates of appointment and notes of current service such as recruiting, a prisoner of war, etc., along with note of another Captain as POW. Datelined as camp near Hillsborough Nov. 1, 1780. Certification signed by Williams on reverse. A scarce piece relating to the southern campaign. Williams (1749-1794,) a Marylander, had fought at Fort Washington, was prisoner in New York, and promoted Colonel of the 6th Maryland in 1777. He is most noted for his role in the southern campaign, skillfully covering Greene's retreat to the Dan River and fighting at Camden, Guilford Courthouse, and Eutaw Springs. He was promoted Brigadier General in 1782. CONDITION: Excellent. Minor stains, edge losses, folds. Fully legible.
