A historically significant document: “A Return of the militia of the county of Tryon, specifying the No. of persons killed, gone to the enemy, taken prisoner and the No. of families moved away since the commencement of the war alos the No. of buildings that have been burnt.” A simple but fascinating document dated December 1780 on the reverse organized according to company by Captain’s name and then entries for number of persons present/ exempt included, no. persons run away, persons killed, wounded, buildings burnt, families moved away, persons prisoner. A telling total of the costs of frontier warfare, the reality of drums along the Mohawk and the conflict of settlers, British, loyalist forces, and native Americans. CONDITION: Very good. 5 small holes on fold lines, 2 within the totals but not affecting the numerals.
