Manuscript orderly book covering Sept. 30, 1778, to March 3, 1779, for the 2nd Pennsylvania. Day to day record of brigade, division, and headquarters orders received by the regiment, details made from regiment, guard assignments, paroles and countersigns, and many, many other details that give in inside view of the functioning of a Continental Army unit as well as recording significant court martials of prominent officers such as Generals Lee, Schuyler, St. Claire, and lesser-known officers like Col. Thomas Price of Maryland, who was acquitted of several charges of cowardice, as well as trials for spying, disciplinary problems, and theft. A good number of orders are recorded over the name of Anthony Wayne as Brigadier General and division commander. The regiment had been formed with the old 1st Pennsylvania as its nucleus. It fought at Princeton, smaller actions in New Jersey, Brandywine, Paoli, and Germantown around Philadelphia, Monmouth as the British pulled back into New Jersey in mid-1778, and then small engagements around New York City. Many of the earlier entries are made at Fredericksburg and Peekskill and later ones at Middlebrook. A very scarce Revolutionary War record. CONDITION: Very good. First page detached. Some edge tears, soiling and small stains, but very legible. Covers and lower half of last 5 pages missing.
