Lot consists of: (A) June 23, 1770 invoice of trade goods for Indians purchased by Capt. James Ottara of the Spanish Arkanzes. (B) Letter detailing trade goods sent to M. Morgan at Fort Chartes by John Finley. Fort de Chartres was a French fortification first built in 1720 on the east bank of the Mississippi River in present-day Illinois. It was later occupied by the British and then abandoned in 1772. John Finley later served in the War of Independence, (1748–1837) was commissioned a first lieutenant in the 8th Pennsylvania Regiment in August 1776 and gained promotion to captain in October 1777. After January 1781 he transferred to the 5th and 2d Pennsylvania Regiments, and he left the army in June 1783. (C) June 24th 1778 letter detailing trade goods purchased in "Arkansaws", brought up the Mississippi and Ohio River, and delivered to the American troops at Fort Pitt. Signature is illegible. (D) 134 pages of bound letters and notes/lists to the Secretary of the Treasury and Transmitting statements exhibiting the bounty paid on the exportation of pickled fish and salted provisions and the amount of duties received on imported salt, from the commencement of the present government to December 31, 1815 and into 1816. Printed in Washington by William A. Davis. A list of tribes in the Missouri Territory to include Sioux, Sauk, Foxes, Cherokees, Delwares, Pawnees, Chippewas, etc. Profit and loss statements of trade to Indian tribes by the US government and other Indian trade related documents as well as endorsements by President James Madison. (E) September 18, 1778 document detailing a general court martial held at Fort Pitt and continued by several adjournments by virtue of the order of the Honorable Brigadier Gen. Lachlan McIntosh. (F) 2 pages of handwritten memorandum of sundry notes of land and accents belonging to the estate of M. Leduc. Village of Cahokie, Mississippi. CONDITION: Some separations at folds, light stains and age toning overall. Edge chips to numerous documents but none affecting the content or writing. BRM.
