An interesting early American knife with attributions to the Battle of Saratoga. The knife features a narrow 10 - 5/8" drop point, Damascus blade with no fuller or ricasso and single edge. The handle is of bone and features an attractive checkered design. A tag attached to the knife sheds light on its attributed history "This Rare American Belt Knife has been documented to have been used during that battle (Battle of Saratoga) and has been identified and Tagged by the Saratoga National Park Historical Society and was auctioned off back in the 1980s to raise money for the park.". A brass button marked "SARATOGA" with a smaller led button is affixed to the handle by twisted brass wire. CONDITION: The blade exhibits a gray patina with scattered age spots. Bone handle is cracked in several places and is missing pieces toward the blade. A very nice example of an early American knife with Revolutionary War attribution.
