Lot consists of: (A) Considered as a secondary weapon to the infantryman's rifle, this hanger was used from the late 18th-early 19th century. The lot consists of 2 British Pattern 1751 Infantry Short Swords which are both militia marked. (A) Standard 1751 pattern configuration with slightly curved, single edged blade with narrow fuller. Samuel Harvey running dog runs parallel to the fuller. Classic heart shaped guard with militia mark "5/20" and "M LEICESTER". Teardrop quillon is missing with 3-band knucklebow. Spiraled and center swelled brass grip with ball pommel and urn-shaped finial. CONDITION: Blade is bright with scattered areas of freckling and delamination. Crisp SH marking. Light edge wear. Hilt exhibits a pleasant patina with crisp markings. (B) Another example of a 1751 pattern Infantry Officer's short sword in standard P1751 configuration. Standard 1751 pattern configuration with slightly curved, single edged blade with narrow fuller. Classic heart shaped guard with militia mark "6/11" and "DENBIGH M". Teardrop quillon with 3-band knucklebow. Spiraled and center swelled brass grip with ball pommel and urn-shaped finial. CONDITION: Blade exhibits a gray patina with areas of pitting and freckling. Hilt exhibits a pleasant patina with crisp markings.
