Lot consists of: (A) French gorget of the Second Empire Garde Nationale. The gorget is constructed of gilded brass and features a separately applied brass rooster. Partial hanger is attached which is constructed of bullion thread. No wool covering on the reverse. CONDITION: The gorget retains some of its original gilt and exhibits scattered spotting. Oxidation is evident around the rooster. Overall very good. (B) 19th century European lion head sword belt. This style of belt was used both British and French forces throughout the 19th century. The belt is constructed of leather with Red Morocco die and neatly sewn bullion thread. 2 brass lion heads are connected by a snake clasp. The belt is unusually short suggesting that it was shortened, possibly during the period for a child as evidenced by some older alterations. The safe is in the correct location behind the lion heads and there is newer thread holding portions of the leather together. CONDITION: The leather exhibits scuffs and creases with a few areas of loss and flaking. Newer stitching has come loose in areas. Overall good.
