Pair of English private Officer's purchase Pattern 1798 flintlock pistols made by H.W. Mortimer & Company in London, England circa 1810. 9" "LONDON" marked .69 caliber smoothbore barrels with British proofs and no sight provisions. Private purchase marked locks with "(Crown) / G.R." and "H.W. MORTIMER & CO." marks; no broad arrow proofs with single trigger controls and correct steel trumpet end ramrods. Walnut stocks with brass hardware including a special strengthened split tailpipe. CONDITION: Both pistols are in good condition with steel surfaces heavily polished. Brass has been cleaned and is returning to a pleasing patina. Wood on pistol (A) has repair around front of lock. Wood on pistol (B) shows no repairs or restoration with usage dings and marks with traces of original finish. Both have pitted but shootable bores with crisp mechanics. Not known if these pistols are a marriage or been together since purchase, but both are in similar condition and make a strong display as a pair. DLM
