Lot consists of 4 items: (A) 1781 pass from Samuel Birch, Brigadier General Commandant of New York for 4 men to leave the city under flag of truce for Mush Mullion Creek Delaware Bay and return with their families. “Approved G.B. Rodney” on reverse. A secretarial copy. CONDITION: Fair to good. Tear at top. Tape repairs reverse. (B) War Office 14 August 1782 manuscript list of prices for commissions at various ranks in different regiments, along with case value differences in successive ranks: Foot Guards, Dragoon Guards, Horse, Marching Regiments of Foot, etc. CONDITION: Very good. (C) “A List of Prisoner with the Rebels of His Majesty’s 28th Regiment of Foot the 25th April 1778… Philadelphia.” List of 27 men grouped by company. Perhaps used for a proposed prisoner exchange or to keep track as the regiment changed posts. The regiment fought at Charleston, Long Island, Fort Washington, Brandywine and Germantown. Returning to New York in 1778 it was then sent to East Florida in November 1778. (D) Order to General Lord Amherst 3 April 1786 from Adj. Gen. William Fawcitt letting him know the King has directed line officers use swords rather than spontoons and that the officers of the 60th or Royal American Regiment under his command are to be so armed. A secretarial copy likely taken from a regimental order or letter book. The reverse has portions of an order relating to the granting of leaves of absence. CONDITION: Very good.
