Lot consists of 1 letter and 1 receipt by Caleb Gibbs, Rhode Island officer and commandant of the Commander in Chief's Guard, wounded at Yorktown, and 1 clipped signature of Capt. De Frey of Pulaski's Legion. (A) Morristown, June 5 1779 letter by Caleb Gibbs requesting repair of his "Camp Bedstead" that was left behind while on the march. Signed "C. Gibbs." CONDITION: Very good. 2 stains, but fully legible. (B) March 12, 1783, receipt by Gibbs for payment of forage rations. Signed "C. Gibbs Major." CONDITION: Excellent. (C) Clipped document signature, "Philada Augt 29 1781 / Bar. Frey Caoptain of the Pulaski Legion." Baron Charles De Frey was Captain from January 1778 on Lafayette's staff until after Monmouth in June and then commanded a company of dragoons in the Pulaski Legion. He was captured in 1779 while on furlough, released in July 1781, and served as a volunteer under Lafayette at Yorktown. CONDITION: Very good.
