Lot consists of 5 items. (A) Pay order to advance Lt. Leigh 1000 dollars to enable him to proceed to Lancaster on important public business. Signed by Reed. (1741-1785, President Supreme Council of PA,) Reverse docket by Rittenhouse, Secretary. Dec. 1780. (B) March 1779 receipt for funds received from Patterson commissioner of Bucks and Balliott of Northampton, signed by Rittenhouse. CONDITION: Left edge reinforced by tape on reverse. (C) Pay order for Samuel Lyon, late commissioner of purchases for Cumberland County, signed by Rittenhouse directed to treasurer of Cumberland County, reckoned at 715 pounds and change in state money and something over 53,663 poined in continental money. (D) 1783 letter from “William Alexander, Major late 3rd Regt. Penna.” to the “President of Pennsylvania” regarding the depreciation of pay and extra duty he did as Brigade Inspector. Alexander served 1776 to 1783 rising from lieutenant to major in the 6th, 7th and 3rd PA. An interesting insight into the economic hardships and complexities of the war. CONDITION: Good, but edges laid down on paper. (E) Page 5 only of a February 21, 1782, petition by Isaac Craig to the President and Executive Council of Pennsylvania, apparently regarding seniority and rank. Mentions being posted at Fort Pitt. Craig was from Pennsylvania and served as Captain of Marines 1776, Captain and Major 4th Cont. Artillery 1777 to 1783. CONDITION: Very good.
