Lot consists of 4 items: (A) Pages 5-10 and 23-28 apparently from a small booklet on the British Navy circa 1782 listing ships and status at various dates. Page 25 lists American ships captured 1777 to 1781 with names of ship, number of guns, and name of captor. Following pages with French, Spanish and Dutch ships captured. CONDITION: Poor. (B) Undated charge to the United States by Jabez Perkins, included a bill from John Champman “for piloting the Prison ship to New London” and a charge for 92 arms and bayonets purchase of Joseph & Wm. Russell, along with other amounts including sundries from “Jz Perkins by order of the Council of Safety.” CONDITION: Good. (C) Undated letter by R.L. Hooper, Deputy QM General 1777 to 1782 to Col. More saying he has “furnished the full complement of waggons requested of me by the British Quartermasters” and notifying him the “Prisoners of war by order of Capt. Landsdale must immediately come here to proceed under care of Capt. Landsdale’s guard.” CONDITION: Good. (D) July 3, 1778, letter of British general William Phillips to American Maj. Gen. Heath. Phillips was capable and prominent in the Saratoga Campaign. He commanded the “Troops of the Convention” after the surrender and Burgoyne’s return to England. This letter regards a squaring of accounts for provisions delivered to the captured British troops by American commissaries by transferring to the Americans a quantity of beef just delivered to the British by a supply ship. Phillips himself was later exchanged for Gen. Benjamin Lincoln and died on campaign in the south in 1781. CONDITION: Edge losses and stains, but very good.
