Lot consists of: (A) Aug 21, 1778 dated receipt to Mr. LeBrun De Belleceouck (Aide de Camp) from a David Cummings. (B) March 1780 receipt. (C) February 15th, 1779 receipt for clothing received from Col. Henry Jackson penned by Robert Willliams, Paymaster, for Col. William Smith's Regiment. Mentioned are hats, waistcoats, buckles, and both enlisted and NCO uniform coats. (D) Pass given to a British Lieutenant Colonel and his 2 servants by Maj. General William Heath, Headquarters, Boston March 27th, 1778. (E) Receipt dated June 10th, 1777, penned by Capt Royzel Smith for James Treddel, a "muscle fellow" that was enlisted in the Continental Service by Capts. Amos Main and Daniel Rouman into Col. Angell's Regiment. Col. Angell served nearly throughout the entire war in Rhode Island and was successively promoted. He was appointed a major of Colonel Daniel Hitchcock's Regiment at the outbreak of the American Revolution. He served with the regiment in the Siege of Boston. When the Continental Army was reorganized on January 1, 1776, Hitchcock's Regiment was redesignated as the 11th Continental Infantry. Late in 1776, Hitchcock was appointed as a brigade commander and Angell assumed command of the regiment. The regiment was redesignated as the 2nd Rhode Island Regiment on January 1, 1777, and Angell was promoted to lieutenant colonel of the regiment. A few days later, he was promoted to colonel in command of the regiment following the death of Colonel Hitchcock on January 13, 1777. Angell was present at Valley Forge in the Winter of 1777 to 1778, and in the following battles: Siege of Boston, Battle of Brandywine, Battle of Red Bank, Battle of Monmouth, Battle of Rhode Island, and the Battle of Springfield. (F) 1777 dated money receipt of funds received from Col Henry Champion. He entered into service in the Continental Army at the Lexington Alarm. He served as Ensign for 22 days before being promoted to 2nd Lieutenant of the Eighth Company, Second Regiment on April 26, 1775. In May, he became a 1st Lieutenant of the same. He was one of the men who fought at Bunker Hill. January 1776 he was again promoted to Adjutant on the staff of Col. Samuel Wyllys. One year later, on January 1, 1777, he was commissioned a captain in the 3rd Connecticut Regiment. (G) General Orders from a Capt. Caley at "houlan ferey" on Dec 27, 1776. Mentioned are cannons guarding a ferry crossing site and a "grand parad for gards". CONDITION: All exhibit commiserate age with some mild moisture stains and scattered foxing throughout. BRM.
