Lot consists of 17 items: (A) Recruiting Instructions, 1 page front and back, printed guidelines for who could be recruited, terms, pay, uniform allowance, rations, etc. CONDITION: Tear on bottom fold. (B) 1813 letter to Maj. Gardner Asst. Adjutant General from Maj. Hamilton marked confidential from Fort Washington, intimating some officers of the command were unfit and suggesting a plan to get rid of them. CONDITION: Tear at margin last page not affecting text. (C) 1813 clothing receipt for uniform items: hat, cockade & eagle, blanket, uniform coat, etc. (D) October 1814 provision return for a company of riflemen. CONDITION: Very good. (E) Return of ordnance received and issued at Charleston for quarter ending March 31, 1814. Long list of cannon, mortars, howitzers, shells, shot, grapeshot etc. CONDITION: Very good. (F) “Return of the whole number of recruits enlisted…” Printed broadside November 1814 listing unit, principal rendezvous, and dates Feb. through Sept. 1814. CONDITION: Very good. Short separations on folds. Minor losses left edge. (G) Sackett’s Harbor, receipt by agent for army contractor of rations received: meat, flour, whiskey, as well as soap, candles, vinegar. No date. CONDITION: Good. H) Return of 22nd Regiment recruiting party at Pittsburgh: names of men, ages, when enlisted, pay due, etc. CONDITION: Very good, dated February 1813. (I) 1813 discharge for Maj. Lyman, Mass militia. CONDITION: Very good. (J) 1802 discharge of Capt. Williams, 5th Regt. Mass Militia. CONDITION: Very good. (K) 1814 order to report for duty, “actual service,” Mass. Militia. CONDITION: Good. Tear lower left corner not affecting text. (L) Newspaper June 10, 1812, American Mercury, Hartford, Connecticut. CONDITION: Fair. Separations at folds. (M) June 11, 1813 letter from Colonel 8th US Infantry to Capt. W. Jones notifying him of the apprehension of deserter in Washington. (N) Letter from James House, 3rd US Artillery regarding deserter and asking a pair of gunner’s calipers left behind be sent to him. House does not sign with rank, but became Lt. Colonel soon after, eventually Colonel 1822 and Brevet Brig. General 1832. CONDITION: Very good. (O) The peace establishment of the army 1815, booklet, 60 pages printed Washington 1816, listing officers, lineal rank and by regiment. Possibly incomplete. (P) Broadside statemen of military expenditures, 1 Oct. 1814 to 30 Sept. 1815. Dept. of War, Accountant’s Office, Tobias Lear. CONDITION: Good. Minor edge folds and tears. (Q) Broadside general return of recruits for the army, 30 Sept. 1814. CONDITION: Good. Small piece missing top left, edge loss lower left.
