Circa 1860s. 7 - 1/2" spear point blade marked "THOMAS TURNER & CO. SHEFFIELD" and "SUFFOLK WORKS SHEFFIELD" on its face, the reverse of the blade etched with a large "OK" in its center surrounded by the words "AMERICANS ASK FOR NOTHING BUT WHAT IS RIGHT AND SUBMIT TO NOTHING WRONG". Nickel silver flat guard and ornate cutlery style handle of silver-plated brass. 12 - 1/2" overall length. No sheath. CONDITION: Blade appears unsharpened with scattered spotting and spidering, wear to highlights of plated handle. A fine and decorative bowie typical of the Civil War era unusually etched on the reverse rather than the obverse. Formerly part of the Tommie Jones collection.
