Circa 1868-1880s. 8 - 3/4" spear point blade with forged bolster and full tapered tang, marked on its face "XCD, SAMUEL KITCHEN SHEFFIELD" and the outline of a snake. The handle scales are of dark horn with pressed inlays of twisted brass wire and a deer hunting scene in nickel silver, only a few dogs of which remain. No sheath (likely did not come with one). CONDITION: The blade is in good antique condition with scattered light pitting and some tiny nicks but little sign of use. Handles have some separation and insect damage, and most of the inlays have fallen out leaving only the outlined impressions. A unitarian knife with highly desirable hunting scene reminiscent of those found on the English stamped blade "ciphered" knives of the 1840s. Overall length 13". Formerly part of the Tommie Jones collection.
