Circa 1840s-1850s. 8 - 3/4" blade with an overall length of 15". Double edged blade deeply stamped on its ricasso "TILLOTSON & CO. COLUMBIA PLACE SHEFFIELD". Blonde horn handle with inlaid nickel silver escutcheon, fancy pommel and ferrule, in addition to ornately shaped flat nickel silver guard. Heavy leather sheath with ornate nickel silver tip and throat. Blade in excellent condition with light use and scattered light spotting, the handle with one small crack. The end of the pommel is slightly dented. Nickel silver mounted black leather sheath is period seems a little large for the blade. Thomas Tillotson was a manufacturer of English bowies for the American market and is today particularly recognized for his knives produced during the Gold Rush era. Formerly part of the Tommie Jones collection.
