Breech loading percussion cavalry carbine manufactured from 1861 to 1865, with this example produced by the American Machine Works. Standard configuration with 21 - 1/2" 3 groove rifled .50 caliber barrel with German silver insert blade front sight and flip up ladder rear sight. Case hardened receiver with standard markings and saddle ring and bar. Plain walnut butt stock with script "JH" cartouche and steel butt plate, as well as a plain walnut forend retained by a single barrel band. CONDITION: Fine overall. Barrel has drifted to a rich brown patina with some freckles. Receiver exhibits some flashes of case color, with small parts retaining the vast majority of their brilliant blued finish. Stocks have a dark crackled surface with crisp markings and a split at the wrist. Fine bright bore and crisp mechanics. BAS
