Circa 1846-1850s. 7" double edged George Wostenholm bowie with symmetrical dagger form blade, marked I*XL on obverse ricasso with the figure of Mexican War hero Zachary Taylor atop his horse "Old Whitey" on the reverse ricasso. The stag scales feature a plain pointed-end escutcheon and reinforced guard of nickel silver. 11 - 1/4" overall length. No sheath. CONDITION: Blade with light to moderate wear, a few small edge chips towards the tip, darkened with scattered light pitting and spots; handle and guard in excellent condition. A not uncommon form of I*XL bowie, made more desirable with the Zack Taylor marking. Formerly part of the Tommie Jones collection.
