Circa 1860s-1880s. 6 - 1/8" double edged dagger blade, marked on obverse ricasso "HARRISON BROTHERS & HOWSON" and on reverse "NO. 45 NORFOLK ST, SHEFFIELD". The nickel silver frame handle and guard have been silver plated, and are mounted with 4 panels of mother of pearl that have been carved with a groove around the perimeter. 10 - 1/4" overall length. Silver plated nickel silver sheath seems a little large for the blade. CONDITION: Blade appears to have been lightly cleaned with traces of scattered spotting, no cracks in the handle. Sheath with scattered dings, wear to silver plating, soldered repair to belt loop. Harrison Brothers & Howson was a manufacturer of high quality cutlery of all types. Similar fine quality carved pearl dirk knives have been observed, they appear to have been a specialty of this firm. Formerly part of the Tommie Jones collection.
